Suspended above us with intricate patterns and flamboyant colours, neon signs have became a signature and unique symbols of Hong Kong.
This book ‘Fading of Hong Kong neon lights – The archive of Hong Kong visual culture《霓虹黯色—香港街道視覺文化記錄》prompted a historical, cultural and contextual study of Hong Kong signs. Unveiling the artistry and manufacturing process of neon lights.
I was commissioned to create a series of dissected infographics exploring the inter-related components of neon signs, including their unique visual aesthetics, design, and craftsmanship. Based on historical research from Hong Kong Polytechnic University Information Design Lab, the infographics emphasise the structure and craftsmanship of neon signs, providing audiences with a captivating journey into the heart of local Hong Kong culture.
